Together, The Minneapolis Foundation, our funding partners, and our individual donors contribute more than $30 million in grants each year.

As a community foundation, our grantmaking takes two major forms:

  • supporting efforts to meet Minnesota's most pressing needs, and
  • helping donors connect with the causes they care about.
Message to Our Community Partners

The Minneapolis Foundation offers a variety of funding opportunities for Minnesota organizations – to meet the charitable interests of our donors and respond to community needs. These guidelines are designed to help you connect with resources to make a lasting, positive difference in the life of our community.

The Minneapolis Foundation maintains an expansive definition of community – our community is broader in geographic scope, richer in assets and diversity, and more connected than ever by common challenges. We have increased our emphasis on supporting regional and statewide approaches to these shared concerns and to the system and policy shifts required to bring about long-term, positive change.

The Minneapolis Foundation manages an array of charitable funds established by generous Minnesotans. Hundreds of donors are actively involved in grantmaking, supporting the causes they value most; other donors have established funds to address a specific issue; still others have left a legacy of flexible funding for The Minneapolis Foundation to distribute as community needs arise.

A broader reach symbolizes our interest in helping organizations connect with these funding sources, our response to the evolving nature of community, and our commitment to supporting a range of long-term solutions in order to secure affordable housing, quality education, economic opportunity, and a healthy life for all Minnesotans.
