Charitable Funds

Your clients can give away their money without giving away their options. They can select the type of fund that meets their charitable and financial objectives and choose how involved they want to be in making grants.

Donors' choices of fund type reflect their individual approach to philanthropy. Your clients can give:

  • now or later
  • to any nonprofit -- whether local or national
  • a few large grants or many small ones
  • anonymously or through a named fund

While fees depend on the specific vehicle and giving strategy, most of our donors pay less than they would with commercial gift funds. For more information on giving options and specific fees, please, please call William Sternberg, Professional Advisor Development Officer, at (612) 672-3825.

Types of Charitable Giving Funds

Donor Advised Fund

Donor Advised Funds are our most flexible giving option. With a minimum gift of $10,000, your clients can receive a charitable deduction at the time of the contribution and recommend grants to nonprofits of their choice, immediately or in the future. We accept a wide variety of asset types, and your clients can add to their funds at any time.

Supporting Organization

Supporting Organizations can be established by donors as separate foundations in conjunction with The Minneapolis Foundation. A supporting organization supports the mission of The Minneapolis Foundation, yet operates much like a private foundation in that it is separately incorporated and has its own board of directors. The Minneapolis Foundation provides administrative, operations, investment, and grantmaking support to its supporting organizations.
